Well, the orange ones seem to clearly be Gulf Coast Fritillaries, but the adult butterfly that I snapped a pic of doesn’t match. It looks similar to a Painted Lady or Monarch, but the pattern is different. I haven’t located any pictures yet to match up with this guy to ID what this butterfly breed [...]

Ok, some new, some old… Here’s a rehash. These guys are hornworms. They are known as such due to the prominent hornlike appendage coming up from their backside. They will be either red or brown for the tobacco and tomato variety of hornworm. You might see both or only one of them in your garden.
